President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has revealed that the late Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, left behind a young boy who will eventually succeed him as the kingdom’s heir.
The President made the revelation while mourning the passing of King Oyo, saying he received the information during a telephone conversation with Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth Bagaaya Kemigisa.
According to President Museveni, the young heir will be formally introduced to the public at the appropriate time.
The revelation has brought renewed hope and reassurance to the people of Tooro and the wider country, with the royal succession set to continue despite the sudden loss of the monarch. King Oyo, who died at the age of 34, had ascended to the throne in 1995 at the age of just three, becoming one of the youngest reigning monarchs in the world.

MUSEVENI PRAISES KING OYO’S LEADERSHIP
In his tribute, President Museveni also commended the late Omukama for maintaining a positive working relationship with the Central Government.
The President noted that King Oyo avoided politicising cultural institutions and worked to preserve the dignity and cultural role of the Tooro Kingdom.
Museveni urged other cultural leaders to follow a similar approach, stressing the importance of keeping cultural institutions focused on unity, heritage and the wellbeing of their people.
THREE DAYS OF MOURNING
In honour of the late King Oyo, President Museveni directed that he be accorded an official burial.
He also ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast for three days, covering the day before the burial, the burial day and the day after, as Uganda joins the Tooro Kingdom in mourning its fallen monarch.
The death of King Oyo has left the kingdom and the country in deep mourning, but the confirmation that he left behind an heir has provided reassurance about the continuity of one of Uganda’s most respected traditional institutions.
