A Pass Claims Diamond Platnumz Is Not on His Level in Technical Musicianship

Ugandan singer A Pass has sparked debate across the East African music industry after boldly declaring that Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz is not on his level when it comes to technical musicianship.

A Pass, known for his distinctive musical style, vocal ability and experimental approach to music, insists that comparing his artistic abilities with those of Diamond Platnumz would be unfair because they operate on completely different levels.

In a statement that has since attracted attention, the singer dismissed the idea of being placed in the same technical category as the Wasafi Records boss, suggesting that their musical abilities are fundamentally different.

“I’m not here comparing myself with Diamond Platnumz. I can’t because we are all different, but I will tell you on a technical level, we are very different artists. Diamond isn’t in my league. He’s juggling balls. I’m in the Champions League if we’re talking technical abilities,” A Pass stated.

His remarks have reignited conversations about musical talent, technical ability and commercial success within East Africa’s entertainment industry.

Diamond Platnumz, whose real name is Naseeb Abdul Juma, remains one of Africa’s most commercially successful musicians, boasting an impressive catalogue of hit songs, international collaborations, massive streaming numbers and a strong influence across the continent.

However, A Pass appears to draw a distinction between commercial dominance and technical musicianship, suggesting that chart success, popularity and international recognition should not necessarily be the only measurements of an artist’s abilities.

A Pass has also established himself as one of Uganda’s most versatile performers, experimenting with different sounds and demonstrating a distinctive approach to songwriting and vocal delivery.

A DEBATE BIGGER THAN TWO ARTISTS

The comparison raises an interesting question within the East African music scene: Should musical greatness be measured by commercial success, technical ability, vocal performance, songwriting or artistic creativity?

While Diamond’s achievements on the continental and international stages are difficult to overlook, A Pass’s argument introduces another dimension to the conversation about what makes an artist exceptional.

Whether fans agree with his assessment or consider it an overconfident statement, one thing is certain: A Pass has put himself at the centre of an interesting musical debate.

What do you think? Is A Pass technically better than Diamond Platnumz, or is this confidence going a little too far?
