Former Goodlyfe Crew manager Geoffrey Kyagambiddwa, popularly known as Chagga, has stirred fresh debate after reportedly claiming that the late Ugandan music star Mowzey Radio was Burundian.
The claim has brought renewed attention to Radio’s background, with fans likely to question the basis of the revelation about one of Uganda’s most celebrated vocalists.
I was Radio’s manager, and I am the one who introduced him to you in showbiz. I trained him myself. I know his family in detail, and I know the dispute they had after his death because they didn’t know how to perform the Burundian cultural rituals.
Radio, whose real name was Moses Ssekibogo, rose to fame alongside Weasel Manizo as part of the hugely successful Goodlyfe Crew. The duo dominated Uganda’s music scene with hit songs such as Bread and Butter, Nakudata and Ability, earning a loyal following across East Africa.
Radio died on February 1, 2018, after suffering severe head injuries in an altercation at a bar in Entebbe. His death was a major loss to Uganda’s entertainment industry, but his music continues to resonate with fans.
I’m glad I made him a star, but it reached a time when Mowzey had become a problem to me. He became a weapon against me.
