Ugandan singer-songwriter Joshua Baraka has released his latest single “YOYO,” a vibrant love song that explores the excitement, uncertainty and chemistry of taking a complicated romance to the next level.
The new release tackles the familiar world of situationships—where two people clearly share feelings but have yet to define their relationship. Rather than remaining in that uncertain space, Baraka uses “YOYO” to capture the bold decision to turn the connection into something more serious.
The song stands out for its multilingual approach, blending English, French, Luganda and Lingala, giving it an East African identity while maintaining a sound accessible to a wider audience.
“YOYO” is Baraka’s second single of 2026 and serves as another preview of his upcoming EP, Recess 2, which is expected to showcase his songwriting, versatility and intimate storytelling.

Joshua Baraka wrote and produced the song himself, with additional production from Hendrix Sam.
Beyond the release, Baraka is also set to take his music across Uganda on a nationwide tour. The tour kicks off in Northern Uganda before moving to West Nile, Eastern Uganda and Western Uganda, bringing his music catalogue and new single closer to fans outside Kampala.
With its infectious energy and romantic storyline, “YOYO” is ultimately about taking a chance on love and asking the big question: what if the situationship became something real?
