Former Butambala County Member of Parliament and National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy President for Buganda, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, has been granted bail by the Butambala Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Kivumbi was released after meeting the bail conditions set by Grade One Magistrate Amina Wahab. He was required to pay Shs3 million in cash, while his sureties were ordered to execute non-cash bonds of Shs2 million each.

His release comes after a prolonged legal saga that has seen the former legislator arrested and detained several times over cases connected to events surrounding the January 2026 general elections.
Kivumbi had earlier been granted bail by the International Crimes Division of the High Court in July in a terrorism-related case, where the court set a Shs10 million cash bail requirement. He was, however, re-arrested shortly after his release.
The latest court decision allows Kivumbi to leave custody as the legal proceedings continue. His release on bail does not amount to an acquittal, and the charges against him remain before the courts.
