Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, the founder of House of Prayer Ministries International, is mourning the death of his father, Aloyzi Bujjingo, who reportedly passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the age of 108.
The death was announced by Salt TV, which said the deceased was born in 1918. The cause and place of death had not been disclosed by the time of publication, while burial arrangements were yet to be announced.
Bugingo’s Childhood and Family Journey
Bugingo’s loss comes against the backdrop of a difficult childhood that he has previously shared with his congregation.
The pastor spent much of his early life away from his biological parents, who were living in Rwanda. He was raised by his maternal grandparents and other relatives, with his grandmother playing a key role in his upbringing.
In October 2019, Bugingo publicly introduced his parents to his congregation during an Independence prayer night at Namboole Stadium. During the event, his father revealed that Bugingo was born in Masaka and remained with relatives when his parents returned to Rwanda.
Bugingo has previously spoken about the poverty, illness and mistreatment he experienced while growing up, including periods of child labour that contributed to his decision to leave for Kampala before completing his education.
From Humble Beginnings to Ministry
After arriving in Kampala, Bugingo reportedly secured work as a houseboy through connections who linked him to businessman Godfrey Ssentongo. He later sold popcorn at Owino Market while working towards building a better future.
His journey eventually led him into preaching and broadcasting, where he established himself as a prominent religious figure and media entrepreneur.
Bugingo leads House of Prayer Ministries International, based at Canaan Land in Makerere Kikoni, Kampala, and is the founder of Salt TV and Salt FM.
His father’s death marks a major personal loss for the pastor, whose rise from humble beginnings to prominence in Uganda’s religious and media landscape has remained a subject of public interest.
Burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
