Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has encouraged communities to embrace collective fundraising as a practical way of supporting development and improving livelihoods.
Mayiga said communities should not depend entirely on government or wealthy individuals to address their development needs. He noted that organised community contributions can help support key areas such as health, education, employment and poverty reduction.
He made the remarks at Bulange Mengo during a meeting held ahead of the October 1 fundraising drive to honour the legacy of the late Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Nakabaale Kiwanuka.
The fundraising initiative is also expected to help keep alive the contribution of Bishop Kiwanuka, particularly in areas of religion, health, agriculture, education and the fight against poverty.
Masaka Diocesan Bishop Severus Jjumba urged communities to continue preserving and promoting Bishop Kiwanuka’s legacy by building on the values and areas he championed during his lifetime.
