Newly named Tooro monarch King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I has pledged to unite the people of Tooro, emphasizing a leadership approach built on responsibility, discipline and service.
In remarks reflecting on his upbringing, the new Omukama said he grew up with a strong understanding of his royal heritage as the son of Prince Christopher Paul Kijanangoma and grandson of Omukama Sir George Rukidi III.
However, King Edward said his family did not raise him to view royal lineage as an entitlement. Instead, he was taught that belonging to the royal family came with a responsibility to prepare, work hard and serve.
“My family never let me treat royal descent as an entitlement; it was presented to me as a duty to prepare for,” King Edward said.
Beyond his royal background, the Omukama pointed to his 24 years of experience in journalism and public communication, an area he says has contributed to his understanding of people, communication and public service.
His pledge to unite Tooro comes at a significant moment for the kingdom as he begins taking on the responsibilities associated with the throne.
