The Babiito Royal Clan of Tooro Kingdom has dismissed objections raised by Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale and Princess Elizabeth Bagaya regarding the succession of Prince Edward Kijanangoma to the Tooro throne.
The clan maintains that disagreements and competition over royal leadership are not new within the kingdom, pointing to the history of succession disputes among members of the royal family.
According to the Babiito, the Tooro throne is a traditional institution belonging to the ruling Babiito family rather than the personal property of any individual royal.
The latest disagreement has reignited debate over succession, with members of the royal family expressing differing views on who should assume leadership following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The Babiito Royal Clan has, however, called for respect for established cultural traditions and processes as the kingdom navigates the succession question.
The developments come as preparations intensify for the royal rites and ceremonies surrounding the transition of leadership in Tooro Kingdom.
