Ugandan singer Fik Gaza has opened up about the challenges musicians are facing in an industry where politics and entertainment increasingly appear to overlap.
Speaking during an interview on Record FM, the singer said political divisions can create difficulties for artists, especially those who depend on a wide fan base to sustain their careers.
Fik Gaza explained that he prefers not to openly take sides in political debates because his audience is made up of people with different political views.
“As a ghetto youth, I cannot pick sides. I need both NRM and NUP,” he said.
According to the singer, publicly aligning with one political camp can sometimes come at a cost, as some fans may distance themselves from an artist because of their political views.
“I don’t want to go deep into that because it will bring problems in my fan base,” he added.
For Fik Gaza, the issue is not simply about politics but also about survival in an industry where musicians rely heavily on concerts, performances and their relationship with fans.
His comments come at a time when political discussions continue to influence Uganda’s entertainment scene, with musicians occasionally finding themselves caught between their personal views and the expectations of their audiences.
Rather than risk dividing his supporters, Fik Gaza says he would rather maintain a neutral position and concentrate on his music.
