Tooro Chief Prince Charles Kamurasi Akiki has rejected reports claiming that the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV left behind a child to inherit the throne.
Kamurasi, the Omusuuga and head of the Babiito Royal Clan, said the Royal Family was unaware of any child belonging to the late monarch.
“The King had no child. I don’t know about it because we have never been told that,” Kamurasi said.
His remarks contradict statements made by Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiki and President Yoweri Museveni, who said King Oyo had left behind a prince as his heir.
Rwomiire, who announced King Oyo’s death on August 27, 2026, said the monarch had left a prince and that the kingdom would reveal the heir’s identity at the appropriate time, in accordance with Tooro customs.
The differing statements have now raised fresh questions about the succession process in Tooro Kingdom, with attention expected to turn to the Royal Family and traditional institutions for clarity on the future of the throne.
