Police have arrested Asiimwe Christian, also known as Don Chris, a former director of the now-defunct labour recruitment company Sky Pins, over allegations of obtaining money by false pretences and fraudulent labour recruitment.

According to a police statement, Don Chris was arrested at about 2:00am on Thursday, August 27, at a bar in Zana, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.

Police allege that between 2022 and 2025, the suspect collected money from several people after reportedly promising to secure them jobs abroad in countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai.

The alleged positions included jobs as waiters, cleaners and caregivers, among others.

Police say statements have so far been recorded from more than 500 alleged victims. According to the victims, payments reportedly ranged from UGX 5 million to UGX 10 million, depending on the job and destination country.

Don Chris remains in police custody as investigations continue. Police say he will be taken to court in accordance with the law.

Authorities have urged members of the public to verify the licensing and legitimacy of labour recruitment companies and agents before making payments or entering into recruitment agreements.
