Ugandan singer and songwriter Asha Naava Zziwa, popularly known as Naava Grey, has opened up about why she largely stays away from public feuds and conflicts within the music industry.
The “Ninga Omuloge” singer attributes her calm approach to the values she learned from her late parents, saying they taught her to handle disagreements privately rather than taking them to the public.
Naava Grey said her upbringing was centered on peace, discipline, respect and knowing when to remain silent.
«“They taught us to be quiet about everything and handle things privately. You don’t need to go out in public and display it there.”»
According to the singer, those childhood lessons have continued to influence how she handles relationships and disagreements as an adult and as a public figure. She also acknowledged that people respond differently to conflicts partly because of how they were raised.
“My childhood foundation was really good. It’s all about peace and calmness,” she said.
KEEPING HER LOVE LIFE PRIVATE
Naava Grey also explained why she rarely discusses her romantic life publicly. She clarified that a white man she was previously linked to by the public was not her boyfriend, but a fellow musician from Berlin.
She said she had simply taken advantage of his visit to Uganda to work with him on a music video.
“Even my lover is private. Everything of mine is private,” she said.
A CALL FOR MORE TRADITIONAL PARENTING
Beyond her personal experience, Naava Grey urged parents to reconsider some traditional approaches to raising children. She believes certain values taught in earlier generations helped promote discipline, respect and responsible behaviour.
Her comments come at a time when public disagreements among musicians and other celebrities often spill onto social media, turning private disputes into public entertainment.
